The Road That White Men Tread

Bushwac é a recente manifestação da colaboração de 15 anos entre Paed  Conca e Steve Buchanan. Em Agosto de  2007 conseguiram  finalmente gravar o CD “The Road That White Men Tread“.

Esta é uma intrigante mistura de breakbeat, instrumentos de sopro microtonais e texto expressivo. A música do CD transmite uma mensagem clara, pela sua estética e ideias  políticas. A música é também representativa de uma grande variedade de influências que os inspira. Um elemento importante é a dança como parte integral do conceito e do som do grupo. Esta é a manifestação da utilização do instrumento de dança  2ND LINE, criado por Steve Buchanan. Outro ponto de relevancia para a música do grupo é o forte desejo de evitar os clichés estáticos relativos ás tendências minoritárias da música contemporânea improvisada

O vídeo correspondente foi filmado e composto na sua totalidade por Elsa Vieira, também conhecida como MonkeyFish, expressamente para o album, de forma a ser  utilizado, na sua totalidade ou misturado, como acompanhamento durante a performance em tempo real.

Bushwac is the present manifestation of a 15 year collaboration between Paed  Conca and Steve Buchanan. In August  2007, they were able to record a long overdue CD, “The Road That White Men Tread“.

This is an intriguing mix of breakbeat, microtonal reeds and expressive text. The music of the CD delivers a clear message, both aesthetically and politically. As well, the music is quite representative of the myriad influences that have inspired them. An important component is the use of dance as an integral part of the group’s concept and sound. This happens via the dance instrument 2ND LINE, created by Steve Buchanan. Another important part of the group’s music is the strong wish to avoid the cliché status and ghettoizing tendency of much contemporary and improvised music.

The corresponding film track was entirely shot and composed by Elsa Vieira, aka MonkeyFish, expressly for the album, and can also be used, either in it’s entirety or mixed, as accompanying video in live performance.
